Rushden Rangers

31st July & 7th, 14th, 21st, 28th August

Rushden Rangers is back for the summer! A great opportunity to get outdoors together. The sessions are fun, educational and consist of a guided, themed, walk around the beautiful Skew Bridge Lake and surrounding areas.

We have 5 dates to choose from with 4 time slots available on each day, please do book in advance. Each session will take around one hour. Please note week 3 will not include a walk around the lake and will be based in the Community Garden.

While this event is suitable for the whole family, the sessions will primarily be aimed at school aged children. If your child is very young they may prefer to visit the adventure playground. Don’t forget to check out the regular family events delivered by The Wildlife Trust to make the most of the beautiful surroundings.

Wednesday 31st July – Plastic Free Eco Heroes

The Rushden Rangers are ready to spring into plastic-free action and they need some eco heroes to help. Find out where plastic comes from and why we should minimise our use as it is very hard to get rid of! Join in with a lakeside litter pick and see what people leave behind – it’s rubbish! Help us leave Rushden Lakes a cleaner place for all creatures and learn how make less mess yourself too.

Wednesday 7th August – Buzzing & Beetling About

This week the Rushden Rangers are going out to spot butterflies, bees, beetles and all bugs a plenty. The pretty ones, the buzzy ones, the creepy ones and the stinky ones, we will be checking them off on our Bug Out Bingo cards! Along the way, we will be learning the important roles of each bug, how to handle bugs safely and how to encourage more to create safe areas for the bugs to visit your outdoor spaces.

Wednesday 14th August – Grow your own way
Meet at the Community Garden

Rushden Rangers, how does your garden grow? This week the Rangers are in the Community Garden to see what’s growing. Be inspired to start your own window-sill or garden patch by making your very own, take home seed bomb. Learn how to compost food waste to make tasty mulch for the soil, and…the well-loved worm, William Wormsworth is coming up from the soil to share a story and hear all about what you will be growing.

Wednesday 21st August – Preparing to welcome beavers to the Nene Wetlands!

Nene Wetlands are reintroducing some special aquatic mammals this Autumn. Come for a walk and see where beavers will soon be calling home. Find out what makes a beaver feel happy and cosy, and what changes they will bring to the Lakes. Take a look at what lives here now by spotting what’s above and below the water with a Pond dip with plenty of aquatic fun too.

Wednesday 28th August – Rangers ready for climate crusades

Rushden Rangers are celebrating their care for the Wetlands, the climate, and all creatures in this week’s walk. We will be pledging to walk more and waste less, whilst practicing ways to help the plants and animals around us, and the Earth itself. The final session will end in the Ranger’s promise to protect the planet and to have fun always!
