A more sustainable Christmas!

At Rushden Lakes, our commitment to sustainability is integral to our operations and community engagements. The 2024 festive season exemplified this dedication through innovative and eco-friendly initiatives.

Eco-Friendly Festive Decorations

We were delighted to introduce new decorations supplied by Christmas Creations for 2024. These included captivating photo opportunities, enchanting lighting displays, and real Christmas trees, bringing fresh excitement to our site. Post-holiday, all real trees were responsibly recycled, underscoring our commitment to environmental stewardship.

Sustainability at the Core

Christmas Creations shares our environmental ethos, focusing on:

  • Employee Education: Training staff to integrate environmental considerations into daily tasks, ensuring responsible decision-making.
  • Community Collaboration: Engaging with local advisors to enhance environmental credentials and maintain open communication channels.
  • Sustainable Materials: Utilising durable, eco-friendly materials that ensure longevity and minimal environmental impact.
  • Waste Reduction: Prioritising recycling and reusing products, and opting for recycled or refurbished elements to minimize waste.
  • Hazardous Material Avoidance: Eliminating unnecessary hazardous materials and ensuring safe handling and disposal when unavoidable.
  • Pollution Minimisation: Reducing noise, emissions, and pollutants, and developing effective emergency response protocols.
  • Resource Monitoring: Keeping a close watch on the consumption of non-renewable resources, water, and electricity.

Comprehensive Recycling Efforts

The dedication to sustainability extends to meticulous waste management:

  • General Waste: Actively reducing general waste with a target of achieving Net Zero by 2028.
  • Paper and Cardboard: Collected materials are sent to a local paper mill, the oldest working in England, to be transformed into new paper products.
  • Electrical Waste: Lights and cables are recycled at the end of their lifecycle.
  • Metal Waste: Alloys and ferrous metals are separated and recycled for future use.

Festive Fayre

December 2024 marked the debut of our Festive Fayre, featuring a vintage Ferris wheel and wooden huts offering festive food and drink. The event was a resounding success, creating a fabulous atmosphere enjoyed by many visitors. At the conclusion of the Fayre, any unused food and stock were donated to the local charity, Encompass, reflecting our commitment to community support and waste reduction.
