Nene Wetlands Visitor Centre
With Rushden Lakes at its heart, the Nene Wetlands Nature Reserve is a square mile of water, meadows, wet woodland and reed beds. Home to a huge number of species including kingfishers, dragonflies, grass snakes and otters, it is also a destination for thousands of migratory birds each year. The reserve forms part of a Site of Special Scientific Interest, and is managed by The Wildlife Trust for Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Northamptonshire as part of the
Nene Valley Living Landscape.
Wildlife aside, the Nene Wetlands are great for people too, with miles of footpaths and cycle tracks to explore, as well as sculpture trails, viewpoints, a discovery play area and an education area. This is The Wildlife Trust BCN’s very first Visitor Centre. There are regular wildlife-themed activities and guided walks available, so why not pop in, pick up a map and set off on your own adventure?
The Visitor Centre is open every day except Christmas Day, from 10am- 4pm*. For more information and to find out what’s on, contact the Nene Wetlands team on 01933 779 587.
*Visitor Centre may be open later during the spring and summer months.
