It’s not just a new season ladies, it’s a whole new era for beauty looks. They are bolder and more individual than ever. It’s all about celebrating you and how your inner beauty makes you shine and echo all the fabulous things that this new decade has planned for you. With all the typical New Year resolutions, (that you’ve probably given up on by now) makeup artists have stamped their authority on trends that make a commitment to self-love. It may sound a like a bohemian love story but, it’s a liberating approach to your everyday look with just a few simple steps for both day and night.
Expect everything to soften… flushed, balmy lips will replace the matte and over-lined look; brows will be fluffy and feather like while, eyelids will be sure to twinkle with some glitter. And with Valentine’s day approaching and love in the air, a little sparkle is the perfect look for your Valentines festivities - whether you’re staying in with your girlfriends or heading out with a loved one.
To note the new trends, I popped into House of Fraser at Rushden Lakes to get top tips on how to pull off the new style and thanks to two of the makeup artists, I have your beauty look covered this season!
Glass Skin - My first stop was at Bobbi Brown to have a chat with Account Manager Liv, where she advised about “focusing on healthy illuminated skin with moisturising and priming products.” To create the perfect base and au natural skin, you need the thinnest layer of coverage. Water tint foundations were huge at Fashion Week showcasing even skin tones with a hint of glow so that the skin looks sheer. Liv applied a three-step process to get the ultimate even glow on my skin. Start with the Illuminating Balm, then apply the Vitamin Enriched Face Base (a known favourite by youtuber Jeffree Star) and finally the perfect colour match in the Intensive Skin Serum Foundation. Wet Look Lips - To add to your fresh glowing skin you need the perfect colour match lip colour that simply highlights your beautiful tones. Opt for sheer nudes and earth tones with an almost glossy but not sticky finish. Bobbi Brown have the perfect buy to create the ultimate pout. Use the Extra Lip Tint for colour enhancing lip balm that picks up all your natural tones.
False Lashes are all the rage and have been in and out of fashion a few times however, this time round they are making a big statement with feather like looks that create a dramatic effect. These add ons are back in all their glory and are going extreme. To nail the trend, take your inspiration from celebrities including Lady Gaga, Lily Collins, Kylie Jenner and Jennifer Lopez.
Euphoria - If you have noticed an influx of dripping gems and a cluster of glitter, graphic eyeliner and graphic neon eyeshadow lately, that would be the makeup craze known as Euphoria. It’s the ultimate in beauty pride and is the most liberating trend that is loved by makeup artists for self-expression. MAC are known for their pops of colour and glittery makeup products and were my natural ‘go to’ to get top tips on how to apply and rock the beauty trend. Makeup artist Amber talked me through an array of options, and we settled on the easy to create look that can take me from day to night whilst paying homage to the beauty style. Amber started with a 24-hour eye base and applied it all over my eyelid right up to the brow, so the eyeshadow is easy to blend out. Using a fluffy brush Amber advised that eyeshadow Carbon should be spread lightly over the lid and layered to get a deeper shade. Amber went on to advise “using a flat brush, sweep Carbon under the eye and then apply a Pantherized dazzle shadow liquid with a flat brush with a patting motion to blend it. Top up accordingly and add Carbon to the outer corner to give more depth. Finally, using a pencil brush add Nylon to the inner corner to highlight.”
